Our neighborhood of Newport Hills is considered to be in one of the
safest places on the Eastside and for good reason: we pride ourselves
in our sense of community. We know our neighbors, support and
patronize our local businesses, and spend quality time in our community.
In an effort to promote and continue our sense of community, we offer
these safety tips, resources, and on-going information about Public Safety.
If you want to get involved, please contact the Public Safety Chair. You can send email directly to
publicsafety@newporthillscommunityclub.org or use the web form on the
Contacts page.
Safety Tips of the Week
Safe Shopping
Avoid taking a large purse while shopping. Put your credit
card, license, keys, cash, and glasses in a small bag and put the strap
across your chest to keep it close to you.
Have your keys handy before you get to your car. Put your
purchases in the trunk and lock your doors before driving away.
Pet Safety
We consider our pets as members of our families. To keep them safe:
Avoid using harmful chemicals on your lawn or garden.
If you must, keep pets inside for the recommended amount of time
by the chemical manufacturer.
Secure your pets if they travel in your car.
If fireworks are being used nearby, keep your pets indoors.
For your pets' health as well as the health of humans around them,
keep their shots up to date.

Mailbox Thefts: Mailbox theft continues to be a serious
problem. Try to retrieve your mail soon after its arrival. Don’t
deposit outbound mail in your mail box. Use the blue post boxes around
the neighborhood or replace your current mail box with a lockable one.
Street Safety: Please obey all speed limits, which
are generally 25 MPH. Slow down and watch out for pedestrians and children.
If you are walking, please wear bright clothing and use crosswalks.
